We run Berkeley and Dursley Farmers' Markets in Gloucestershire and Downend, Emersons Green and Yate Farmers' Markets in South Gloucestershire. The Farmers' Market Organisers are also Producers who sell at the markets. We like to run markets that that have good facilities, are fun for customers to attend and financially worthwhile for producers. Some of our producers are very experienced; however, we also enjoy encouraging small scale and novice producers to try selling at their first Farmers' Market. Aims We aim to organise markets that provide a wide range of first quality, sensibly priced food and plants for local communities; run low cost markets with good facilities for producers, and link up with local groups, giving them opportunities for fundraising. Our producers live very near our Farmers' Markets, which cuts down food miles. We select producers who take a real pride in their produce and because of this, we can offer specialist foods of the highest quality. To contact us please e-mail info(at)severnfarmersmarkets.org.uk Or phone 01453 890383

Elder Stubbs Garden Group |
We are an Oxfordshire charity that supports people with mental health problems to do things that they want to do. We provide training, encouragement, a supportive environment, the chance to achieve, and one to one support.
Our Services We run four services. These cover a range of opportunities. Three of these services are therapeutic work rehabilitation services. They are Elder Stubbs Garden Group (based in Oxford), the Beehive (based in Oxford), and RESTORE at Fleet Meadow (based in Didcot). These are land and craft based groups which provide a safe, supportive and work like environment that encourages positive change. We grow and sell organic vegetables, flowers, and plants. We also design and make things out of wood, paper, and clay. These activities provide people with the opportunity to create and to work in a group. Decisions are made together and everyone involved in the projects (staff and service users) contributes ideas and has a say in what is done. |

We are a small producer of traditional, free-range, rare-breed pork, bacon and gammon. We retain the 'old-fashioned' and environmentally friendly ways of keeping pigs - outdoors, in grassy paddocks, with lots of exercise and company and we do not use artificial pesticides. Our pigs' food contains no GM products, hormones or drugs and they also have fresh fruit and vegetables. Because of this, we have happy pigs and happy customers. |

A Guide to Traditional Pigkeeping Carol Harris
A fully illustrated and comprehensive reference book covering all aspects of traditional pig husbandry. With a strong emphasis on the conservation of both rare and traditional breeds it is aimed very much at the small-scale enterprise and includes day-to-day management issues such as housing, breeding, showing, sales, marketing, welfare, food regulations and organic pig keeping. It also has sections identifying breeds together with their histories, butchery, meat curing, sausage making and cooking. With contributions from many experts it contains clear text, numerous photos and a substantial resource section together with endorsements from Marcus Bates of the British Pig Association and chef and pig breeder Antony Worrall-Thompson. Hardback 192 pages. Review of A Guide to Traditional Pig Keeping by Carol Harris 'An
absolute delight - either to read from cover to cover if you are
planning on venturing into the pig-keeping teritory, or to
casually flick through if you have an interest in our pink portly
friends and would like to find out a little more...a comprehensive
reference book covering every aspect of pig husbandry that manages
not to be overwhelming.' 'If you're new to pig-keeping, or want to increase your knowledge, the book is an excellent resource. There's really nothing else like it out there, and we wish we'd had a copy when we started out. It concentrates on traditional breeds, and caters for the smallholder wishing to keep a small number of pigs, as well as those who might be looking to get into breeding pigs.... We're very impressed with all the sensible, practical advice the book contains.' Accidental Smallholder June 2005

Mr. & Mrs Pimlott |
The old farming traditions of producing slowly maturing beef cattle, and the love of horses (which both families once used to work the land) have been combined with the farm diversifying into two main areas. The traditionally reared English prime beef, gives a "QUALITY THAT TASTES", because we keep to the "old" standards of non-factory farming and feed non-genetically modified corn . Each animal is treated as an individual, allowed to be "free range" by grazing on long established grass pastures as long as the weather allows, and matures slowly. The farm is well suited to providing bed and breakfast horse riding holidays for guests with their own horse, as the area is very rural, tranquil, and within a steady hack of a 999 acre wood. There is ample space for horse boxes to do a "circular route" in and out of the yard, rather than having to reverse, and there is plenty of space to park the horse box, whether it be in the yard or the paddock. Horse turnout and stabling is supplied automatically. |

Chestnuts Farm produces vegetables, sheep, chickens, geese, ducks, eggs, and goats. Also, we just baled 320 small bales and 16 4ft round bales of late season hay, off our field, which has been run to WFA guidelines for the last 2 (? 3?) years and on the same basic principle for at least 5 years. It is more than we need, so we will have some for sale, if anyone is interested. Probably up to 100 small bales, and all the big ones. 17 September, 2007 |
