The Shaman's Kitchen Cooking with Love Healing through Food.

"Our kitchen is the heart of the home. It's where we can make the most impact on our lives both personally and environmentally"

Shamans Kitchen is a holistic and natural approach to life using our kitchens as the base. By utilising the energy created in them, we can set the tone for how we live. Through this we develop a deeper understanding of the energy around us, using it to bring positive change to our lives.

MISSION:

Kitchen Gardeners International is a 501c3 nonprofit founded in Maine, USA with friends from around the world. Our mission is to empower individuals, families, and communities to achieve greater levels of food self-reliance through the promotion of kitchen gardening, home-cooking, and sustainable local food systems. The Biodynamic Agricultural Association (BDAA)

*“The Association exists in order to support, promote and develop the biodynamic approach to farming, gardening and forestry. This unique form of organic husbandry is inspired by the research of Rudolf Steiner (1861-1925) and is founded on a holistic and spiritual understanding of nature and the human being.

The Association tries to keep abreast of developments in science, nutrition, education, health and social reform. It is linked to the Agricultural Department of the School of Spiritual Science (Switzerland) and affiliated as a group of the Anthroposophical Society in Great Britain. It is also a full member of Demeter International, SUSTAIN, IFOAM and the Five Year Freeze.

Membership is open to everyone interested in working with, developing or learning about biodynamics. Current rates are £30 (£12.50 concessions). Members receive a quarterly newsletter, Star and Furrow twice a year, regular information on events and access to a member's library. Many local groups exist for further study and the exchange of practical experiences.

Demeter Certification

The Association owns and administers the Demeter Certification Mark that is used by biodynamic producers in the UK to guarantee to consumers that internationally recognised biodynamic production standards are being followed. These standards cover both production and processing and apply in more than forty countries. They are equivalent to or higher than basic organic standards. The Demeter scheme is recognised in the UK as Organic Certification UK6.”

The Positive Network

The Positive Network is an information exchange service dedicated to promoting and encouraging Earth care and people care practices. We believe it is time to generate links between local producers and consumers, to begin/develop the process of becoming more sustainable in our communities. We believe it is time to find ways of living which are positive to our health and well-being - every thoughtful decision creates a better future for all life on the planet.

There are practical steps each of us can take straight away:- use locally made products, for example; ensure the things we no longer need are reused; use less energy (- and buy green energy); buy locally grown food; grow a little food ourselves; reduce the use of chemicals that pollute our environment; use recycled items whenever possible; buy only what you need; and support companies and organisations with Earth care principles at their heart.

One of the difficulties facing the companies and organisations that offer solutions is that it is hard for them to be found. This networking service has been set up to help make them visible, and can be used by anyone who offers services linked to caring for the Earth and its people, including:

LOCALLY MADE GOODS
LOCAL SERVICES
LOCAL FOOD
REDUCTION OF WASTE
REDUCTION OF ENERGY USE
REDUCTION OF CHEMICAL USE
REDUCTION OF LANDFILL
PEOPLE CARE PROJECTS
EARTH CARE PROJECTS

Eventually they aim to supply schools, hotels and restaurants and other local businesses as well. For more information visit their website or email info(at)buy-local.net

Re-mineralisation of the soil

"What is clear is that the interactions within soils between plant root systems, the microbial microflora, organic matter and minerals are complex. In order to better evaluate and validate the various claims made on behalf of soil remineralization a focused programme of research is necessary. This report pulls together our current knowledge on soil remineralization from a growing body of work across the globe and sets out a number of areas where research would assist in validating the benefits of soil remineralization and guiding future environmental, agricultural and health policy.

We hope it will be of use to practitioners of various disciplines in contributing to a safer and healthier world." John Ferguson, SEPA Waste and Resource Strategy Unit

About the SEER Centre.

The SEER Centre is a charitable organisation committed to regeneration of soils with Rockdust® to remineralise the soil to benefit the grower and the environment.

In 2005 the SEER Centre Trust, founded by Cameron and Moira Thomson (above) in Highland Perthshire, established Rockdust Ltd as its trading subsidiary in 2005.

Rockdust® can improve the natural capability of soils to absorb atmospheric carbon and produce vigorous, mineral-rich vegetataion. If remineralisation is adopted as a matter of urgency on a global scale, our species could beneficially sustain itself without the use of agricultural chemicals, reclaim the deserts with the humble worms and stabilise chaotic climate. Climate change is the tension which precedes the Earth's natural remineralisation process - 90,000 years of glaciers grinding rocks to fertilise the next stage of evolution. We can simulate this fertility process with Rockdust®.

It is the most simple way forward for sustainable agriculture.

Many of the manufacturers of complementary drugs tell you that you will feel great if you would only take vitamin x and supplement z, but our lifestyle is now so varied and stressful and lived at such a pace that doing just this one thing cannot possibly do the trick.

HEHLISHOLISTICS

"I feel that we should spend more time and effort maintaining our own and our families' health and the only way to do that is by doing it ourselves.

By using organic or more natural products that are made by smaller companies, we can feel that we are making a difference.

By using your own mill to produce your grains, you are actually doing a great deal more than just "milling". One of the pioneers of wholemeal food has correctly said "Our food is more than a summary of its ingredients", and no man-made product can match the wholeness of freshly milled flour. This contains a large number of so called "vital substances" such as enzymes, minerals, vitamins etc. which are vital for the smooth functioning of our bodies.

Looking at our suppliers, the manufacturer of the grooming tools works closely with disabled people and spends a lot of time in improving his products.

Our organic tea and spice distributor has won many awards for outstanding contributions to fair trade, society and environmental protection. Our grain mill manufacturers have spent years on producing the best and most gentle way of milling the grains."

  River Cottage

River Cottage believes in sustainable agriculture and local food production. We‘d like as many people as possible to either grow or raise their own food or have access to plenty of great local and seasonal produce – preferably from local shops and farmers’ markets.

In order to achieve these goals, it’s essential to support the rural communities who can produce that food. That’s why this year we‘re proud to be giving our backing to RURAL REVIVAL. This brilliant charity aims to break the cycle of rural decline in the UK by supporting the establishment of community and social enterprises. These include community-owned village shops and Post Offices, recycling services, craft co–operatives, childcare schemes, community broadband schemes and producer-run farmers‘ markets. RURAL REVIVAL provides start-up advice, ongoing mentoring and small grants to rural groups with commercially viable ideas that address the social needs of their communities.

About Grassroots Food Network

Grassroots Food Network Ltd (GFN) is a not-for-profit organisation (limited by guarantee), working to deliver, practical solutions to revive local and regional food chains through the following means:

Identifying, evaluating and piloting practical, local food supply initiatives.

AV Documentation and good-practice dissemination.

Capacity building and sharing market information.

Encouraging the application and uptake of information technologies.

GFN’s diverse work includes trialling ethnic food crops, raising awareness of food issues in schools and public sector food procurement initiatives. Although currently set within the regional context of Yorkshire and Humberside, EU funding has enabled the sharing of ‘best practice’ across other peri-urban regions in NW Europe. A key component of GFN’s success is its ability and reputation to work ‘beyond the barrier’, whether tangible as in geographical or intangible as in ‘perceived’, but always based on addressing the current realities faced by local producers, processors and the local markets they could potentially serve.

Our aims and vision are clear and inform all our work, namely to:

Engage in dialogue with relevant authorities and funding agencies, which recognise that collaboration within the supply chain is vital to revitalise a sustainable, local food economy.

Initiate the collaborative piloting & exchange of practical, market-driven solutions to problems shared by the various food sectors & cultures, both demographic and social, for the mutual benefit of all players within in the local food economy.

Give support & advice to groups who share a common interest to develop their ideas & projects & access local, regional, national and European funding sources.

Encourage practical work with an educational focus within communities and schools, raising awareness of the issues surrounding food and to enable groups to implement new, local, food-related activities within their own communities.

GFN is continually exploring the minimum and necessary structures required to link local primary food producers with local customers/consumers, working alongside:

Producers.

Disadvantaged, inner-city Communities.

Local Wholesalers and Retailers.

Public Sector Procurement Departments.

Consumer groups.

Producer / consumer NGO’s.

Local Community Groups.

National, regional and local government agencies.

THE MILLION CAMPAIGN HOMEPAGE FOUNDATION

We here at the Million Campaign Homepage believe that the world, and particularly the mainstream media, is already flooded with advertising. In the era of global warming we need to evolve to a global public service instead of local private profit. We have a planet to save, and a life upon it to safeguard and secure for future generations - animal, vegetable, and mineral.

The Whole Hog

Marisa and Leanne welcome you to the home of "The Whole Hog",
11 acres of smallholding nestled at the end of the remote and lovely Luddenden valley. First and foremost we are suppliers of rare-breed pork and pigs. Our rare-breed pigs are free-ranging, spending their days outdoors with plenty of fresh air and exercise, browsing and foraging just as nature intended. Our rare-breed pigs are reared on natural feeds and benefit from all the natural goodness gained from grazing and rooting in mineral-rich soil. We know that a happy pig is an outdoor pig, socialising, exploring and foraging, unconfined and free to express itself in all its piggish glory!

In addition we run one-day introductory courses on SMALLHOLDING and ANIMAL HUSBANDRY

Why Purple? from www.purpleplaces.co.uk

Why Purple? Why Love?

Well, it all started because we really wanted to change how food is made and sold in Britain and judging by last years response it seems we've struck a chord with loads of people from all walks of life.

The reason we decided on Purple is simple. It’s an independent colour and will stand out against all else. Love because it expresses what our independent shops (and us) need a bit of right now.

OK - we know it sounds a little bit cheesy and trite but there really is a dead serious message behind the whole event: support and protect our Independent food shops or lose them forever.

Purple also appeals to the kind of people that won’t follow the beaten track and know that taking a stance for something they believe in is more fun than being one of the sheep.

Simply? A different way of looking at things dreamed up and championed by us here at Olivestall... It's a way of being that encourages people and businesses to do the following

  • to do the max and not the min,

  • to treat people properly and with humanity,

  • to be concerned with the success of others,

  • to be remarkable,

  • to do what you do with passion and pride.

If you want to read more about what purple is all about, read our Little Book of Purple Love which we've completely revised for 2007.

Severn Farmers' Markets

We run Berkeley and Dursley Farmers' Markets in Gloucestershire and Downend, Emersons Green and Yate Farmers' Markets in South Gloucestershire.

The Farmers' Market Organisers are also Producers who sell at the markets. We like to run markets that that have good facilities, are fun for customers to attend and financially worthwhile for producers. Some of our producers are very experienced; however, we also enjoy encouraging small scale and novice producers to try selling at their first Farmers' Market.

Aims

We aim to organise markets that provide a wide range of first quality, sensibly priced food and plants for local communities; run low cost markets with good facilities for producers, and link up with local groups, giving them opportunities for fundraising.

Our producers live very near our Farmers' Markets, which cuts down food miles. We select producers who take a real pride in their produce and because of this, we can offer specialist foods of the highest quality.
